By the end of this chapter, you’ll be able to build a basic design using shape tools, use the Quick Selection tool, and create selections and masks.

Tools are a way of doing things that provides more control than either the Lasso tool or the Brush tool. But it’s a little different than using a pen. Tools are more like puzzle pieces. In Photoshop, tools have different functions that work with all layers. In any given tool, you can use either raster, vector, or filter functions. You also have a choice of which tool. A tool can be a brush, a pen, a rectangle, a bezier, or a vector path. In addition to the tools, you also have a list of 100 tools or a categorized list of 500 tools. You can also add your own, access them from the Tools panel, and use keyboard shortcuts.

Shape tools

The shape tools include the Rectangle, Polygon, Ellipse, and Freeform Shape tools. The Rectangle tool is useful when you want to create a box in the canvas. Although a polygon can be used to create boxes, it is not easy to use. The Polygon tool draws a circle- or square-based box. Figure 13-3 shows the Polygon tool in action. If you like, you can delete the selected corners to create precise boxes. You can transform the box by using the Transform tools.

Illustrators often use the Rectangle tool to make shapes. The Polygon tool makes it easier to create closed shapes and uses different tool types when it is clicked. Figure 13-2 shows the Freeform shape tool in action. By using this tool, you can create general shapes that can be reassembled in different ways. Create these shapes by adjusting the anchor point. You can also edit the fill and stroke to better emphasize the shape you’ve created.

When designing a web page, use the Polygon tool to create simple shapes, such as boxes, frames, and backgrounds. Use the Freeform shape tool to create less structured shapes.

The Rectangle tool is great for trimming off edges when you need to tidy up a graphic on the canvas. Use the Polygon tool to create rounded rectangles, and create a series of smaller or larger shapes

What’s the difference between Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Pro?

Photoshop Pro has additional features, including multiple layers, history tools, more color-related features, high dynamic range, brush tools, healing tools, lens correction and other professional features. Photoshop Elements is great for fun and hobby projects, but it does not have advanced effects, like smoothing, cloning, lens correction and healing. Paths are a collection of strokes or sub-images that you use to paint different paths, circles, ellipses, rectangles, polygons, or complex shaped objects. These can be used for performing straight or curved alignments between any two points on your canvas or image.
In Photoshop, a layer is a collection of one or more photo layers that is a collection of one or more Photoshop layers. These can be stacked and manipulated as one. You can add strokes, colors, masks, or adjustment layers.
Layer Masks are placeholders, or masks, that are placed over your Photoshop layers. These masks block certain areas of the layer from being changed, so that everything under the mask remains the same. This is often used to mask off damaged areas of a photo and then place a new layer over the masked off areas.

The invention relates to a process for producing a polyamide molding material which comprises a polyamide and, as an effector substance, a particular content of paramagnetic non-crystalline residues of polyamide-curing oils.
German patent application No. DE-OS 34 18 150 (U.S. Pat. No. 4,743,664) describes a process for producing a polyamide molding material which has an improved mold release effect. In addition to the polyamide, one or several effector substances (often referred to as masterbatches) are used. These effector substances are advantageously present in a finely powdered, more or less tacky mass in a binder. They are meant to improve the capability of the polyamide molding material to be released from the mold for the purpose of removing the molding material from the mold.
The effector substances may be polyamide-curing oils which are often referred to in the following in the polyamide molding industry as masterbatches or synthetic oils. The oils may be composed essentially of hydrocarbon compounds. They contain as their main components amides, esters, polar groups such as ethers, carboxylic acids, alcohols or amino groups.
Polyamide molding materials which have a good mold release effect are required especially for the production of injection-molded articles. In this regard, it is of great importance to ensure that the mold release effect is not impaired by the effector substance. It has been shown that the polyamide molding materials that are used are, for example, not lubricated on the surface.
Such polyamide molding materials are used in the production of films, bottles and parts of various kinds and sizes. They are also used for the production of pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes or label tapes.
On account of the low level of consumption of the polyamide molding materials, however, the presence of the polyamide and the effector substances in the environment cannot be tolerated. The use of the polyamide molding materials according to DE-OS 34 18 150 in the production of films, pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes and label tapes, in particular, demands a considerably lower consumption of the polyamide molding materials.
It is known that the impact strength of polyamide molding materials decreases with decreasing synthetic oil content. The polyamide molding materials produced therefrom contain, for example, of 100 parts by weight of a synthetic oil, usually of 200 to 400 parts by weight
