AutoCAD History [ edit ]
In 1980, Paul LeRoy discovered a program called Coronado on a software demo disk and was so excited by it that he contacted Mark Griffiths at Autodesk and offered to purchase the source code. Mark offered to sell the software for US$4000. After much pressure and persistence, Mark and Paul set a price of US$1000. Over the next two months they worked out the details, built the software, and released it on April 1, 1980.
Paul and Mark had been working together since 1978 on the Paul LeRoy Graphic software, a CAD program. The first version of AutoCAD was a one-function program that only allowed creation of drawings. Mark took the next program in development, The Director, and expanded it to support both a two-dimensional (2D) drafting capability, and also plan drawing capabilities.
In November 1981, the first hard copy of AutoCAD, featuring a cover drawing by Paul LeRoy, was delivered to various magazines and customers, and by the end of 1982, more than 50,000 copies had been sold.
AutoCAD was updated twice each year with new features. From 1983 to 1985, new features were added every six months. Then, beginning in 1985, AutoCAD released approximately every year. Changes to AutoCAD were often previewed on the CAD News bulletin board.
Other CADs [ edit ]
Since the time AutoCAD was first released in 1982, many CAD programs have been introduced to market. Other CAD programs introduced in the last fifteen years include:
In addition, there is the program sketchCAD which is used for drawing in geometry, fabrication, and small assembly work. It was developed by CADengineering and SUREvision.
Community-based CAD [ edit ]
In addition to the official CAD, there are other smaller CADs. These tend to be community-based, with a strong support system as well as a small, but enthusiastic community.
Open source [ edit ]
In 2007, the Open Source version of AutoCAD was made available as open-source software. This version of AutoCAD is developed by various volunteers, but still in beta testing and development.
The current version is AutoCAD R2018.

AutoCAD has the capability to edit Microsoft Word documents, including writing macros, running macros, inserting text, headers and footers, saving and printing documents. It has the capability to insert hyperlinks and pictures from digital cameras.
AutoCAD has a series of tools known as Freehand to assist in laying out a general model, which can then be exported to an AutoCAD drawing. Freehand tools include:
Moving the selected objects
Freehand tools for clipping, editing and measuring the selected objects
Applying the most appropriate objects to a selected area
Splitting and joining the selected objects
Pinch, Expand and contract
AutoCAD’s predecessor was Cadstart, a graphical programming language that used a line-by-line approach. One such tool was Cadstart 2, which allowed simple procedures to be linked together. It was available only for DOS.
After it was released in 1985, CADstart was rewritten as AutoCAD, one of the first 3D applications.
At the beginning, AutoCAD could only be used with mainframe computers. Later, the application was made available for personal computers (PC). The first version of AutoCAD for PCs, AutoCAD LT, was released in 1991.

Is it possible to set the permission of a file to be written-only with the user?
I’m about to create a small task manager for our clients, and I’m trying to find a nice solution to the permission issues.
Let’s say I have a script to create files and I want to create them, and only those files can be created by a single user.
I have tried with chmod 755, but if I have multiple clients accessing it, all will be able to create files.
Is it possible to make it be accessible by only one user? Is there a Linux command to do this?
You could use SELinux:
SELinux provides fine-grained protection for Linux based operating
systems. It provides security services for the individual users,
services and applications. SELinux policies are stored in the
/etc/selinux directory as SELinux policy modules (SPMs). You can
modify and extend the security policy and the content of the SELinux
policy by creating, modifying and deleting SELinux policy
configurations. The main configuration files for this purpose are:
/etc/selinux/config – general SELinux policy configuration file
/etc/selinux/audit.rules – provides user and service level auditing.
/etc/selinux/policy – stores the actual SELinux policy
The Orioles made a series of roster moves on Saturday to add depth to their Triple-A and Double-A farm systems, with 11 different players being added to the 40-man roster. The most significant move was Baltimore’s signing of former Indians minor league right-hander
What’s New In?
Markups can be approved in real time in AutoCAD, or after reviewing your design using the new Markup Assist feature. With new Markups, you can add or change comments, dimensions, and more in AutoCAD to show how your idea would work in your drawings. (video: 8:40 min.)
Import and place Autodesk® Catia® from PDF and SVG documents (see video: 5:43 min.)
Intelligent Bounding Box:
The new Feature Set definition dialog (or Graphic Size window) will show intelligent bounding boxes that reflect the visible area of an object. The exact boundary of the object is automatically computed based on its selection boundaries. The bounding box is refreshed automatically when the object is moved, or when AutoCAD changes the boundaries of the object. (video: 2:47 min.)
Delight in precision.
With the new Precision Lines, you can draw lines exactly where you want them. Precision lines are thin, dotted or dashed, and can be set to any thickness. You can create lines in drawing area or the Plotter window. Draw in 2D or 3D, right on your plotter. (video: 3:40 min.)

Create 2D views from 3D views:
Enjoy rapid, interactive 2D views for multiviews and perspective views. By using project management and the new navigation tools, you can easily create a 2D view of a 3D model and navigate around it. You can create, move, and delete 2D views and create detail views with the new 2D view commands. (video: 8:04 min.)

Powerful and easy-to-use annotation tool. With new text annotation tool, you can easily mark your drawings with text and shapes. The annotation tool in the Annotation toolbar and in drawing annotation panel is easy to use, easy to store, and dynamic. (video: 5:26 min.)
Enhance your creative workflow.
When you open a drawing, a new layer is automatically created to keep your drawing clean. You can add a layer, change the color, and move it around with drag and drop. You can create new objects, and you can also create a new layer, move a layer to a new position, and set its blending mode, color, linetype, and lineweight. New dynamic guides give
