A Brief History of AutoCAD
AutoCAD is an intuitive, easy-to-learn, and powerful program. Its user interface allows novice users to produce drawings almost immediately, with little or no knowledge of computer graphics. AutoCAD debuted in 1982, making it one of the most popular CAD software applications ever. Its user interface is designed for mechanical, architectural, and automotive design professionals. One drawback to Inventor is that most professionals use this program at their companies. They also need to train their own employees on the Inventor system.
Inventor was first released in 1989, as part of the AutoCAD 2.0 family of products. The Inventor Engineering Design Suite, a complete package of engineering design and engineering analysis tools, debuted in 1994.
As an engineering design suite, Inventor includes 2D drawing capabilities, complex solids modeling, and complex, 3D engineering design and analysis features. It also includes a powerful workflow that allows users to easily coordinate and collaborate on designs from multiple users. Spatial selection and operands
The Spatial Selection feature (Table 4.1, Fig. 4.3) allows to select, edit, and navigate around objects. The object can be either completely or partially selected. If the object is selected, and the selection tool activated, a new “actuated window” is created (see Fig. 4.4), that allows to edit the object, and select one or more items (either in the drawing or in other drawings) to be included in the selection.
The most frequently used selection tool is the rectangular selection tool, which allows to select the enclosed area by the selection rectangle (see Fig. 4.4). When a point is clicked on the drawing canvas, a small yellow frame is created (see Fig. 4.5) around the clicked point, in which small rectangular frames are created. Each rectangular frame represents a location where you can click in order to select a vertex of the enclosed area. The resulting selection is called a vertex selection. Note that the vertex selection surrounds the selected object, and the enclosed area is the selectable region. An additional feature that can be achieved using the vertex selection is the selection of a closed path, by selecting the vertex that connects the first and last selected vertex.
The “selection window” allows to create, delete and edit vertex selections, as well as to change the selected area. The selection window is also referred to as the “selection tab”.
AutoCAD provides a number of other selection tools, such as the line selection tool (allows selecting a path), the arc selection tool (allows selecting a circular area), the polyline selection tool (allows selecting an open path) and the ellipse selection tool (allows selecting an open or closed elliptical area). In addition, there are the 3D selection tools, the 3D box selection tool, the 3D wireframe box selection tool, the 3D intersect selection tool, the 3D shape selection tool and the 3D surface selection tool. If the selection tool is activated, an additional small box (see Fig. 4.5) is created around the selected point, and is indicated by a small red arrow. The selected region can be edited in the selection window, if needed.
