The MSU Screen Capture Lossless Codec is a simple and fast lossless video compression codec for captured video from screen.
It is intended for use with screen capture software and for making screenshots of games for example.
It compresses all non-transparent colors to 0 (black) and transparent colors to 1 (white), which is the most efficient way of encoding this kind of video. In addition, it saves the alpha channel for all pixels. The same alpha channel is used for encoding pixels with transparent backgrounds (and this codec always preserves all pixels with transparent backgrounds).
It uses 16 different resolution tiers, the level of compression can be controlled (level 1 to 7).
The MSU Screen Capture codec is intended to be used in conjunction with other lossless codecs, as a layer on top of existing video codecs. It does not change the actual video itself, it just takes care of encoding and decoding it.
