Aside from the change in the preview type box, I don’t have any major complaints with this new feature. The software is more fast and the end result is more attractive. I’m sure that this creates a good user experience, especially for beginners. But it does nothing for those who are unhappy with how the software tends make changes in image content. My bet is that things will not be that easy to turn off. However, it would be really nice if the user could individually choose what preview the software would use from the Photo > Smart Previews menu.
The Backdrop panel has been improved. It now allows access to 16 customizable panes which makes it easy to create a similar editing workflow as earlier version of Photoshop. I am not sure if any of my readers created their own customization layouts in the past. But I think that with the new release of Lightroom 5 it is a time to come up with this by creating the same layout we use for Photoshop. Or at least, creating a working template so that up-to-date designers can do so in a matter of minutes.
